Pumpac

Manchester United have revamped the Old Trafford pitch and at the same time installed a new pitch irrigation sprinkler system.

Pumpac won the order from the main Irrigation contractor Irrigation Control Ltd to provide a submersible Duty/ Standby pump system supplying 8.5 ltr/sec at 6.5 bar of constant pressure, to be controlled by the AUC specialist irrigation controller via 2 variable frequency converters. The system can be remotely monitored from the Pumpac Offices and also sends text messages warnings and fault information to the senior ground staff via SMS modem. The  system can be remotely observed, controlled and data logged when operating by the Pumpac Engineers , enabling them to adjust the system in order to work at maximum efficiency at all points during the irrigation cycle.

The 6” submersible pumps are housed in polyethylene shrouds to aid cooling and were retro fitted in an existing large glass fibre underground  water tank situated below the stands. They are plumbed with threaded galvanised pipe and connected by a manifold and a 200 ltr. pressure vessel, with the control panel fitted on the wall of the plant room.
