WU Booster Sets
Application
The WU range of potable water and final effluent booster sets are built to meet the strict specification requirements of the water industry.
Description
Industry approved Pumpac WU potable water, cold water and final effluent booster sets use WIMES as the basic guideline specification. They include a wide range of design options to enable the equipment to meet the demanding and varied specification requirements of the different UK and Irish water utility companies.
- Energy efficient variable speed option
- Traditional DOL & star/delta fixed speed options

Pumpac WU potable water, cold water and final effluent booster sets are designed to give security of supply, efficiency, maintainability and durability using integral fixed or variable speed control panels. The sets combine the required level of operational control with practical mechanical design.
Typically Grundfos CR and Lowara SV pumps are used, either powered by Danfoss inverters controlled by an AUC340 pump control unit, or started more traditional using DOL or Star/Delta starters and more conventional electro-mechanical panels.
Systems can be plumbed with galvanised steel, 304 or 316 stainless steel, impact resistant PVC, ABS or with smaller sets copper pipework. The pumps are mounted on galvanized steel skids, with fork lift sockets where required, pump plinths improve pipework accessibility, rigid galvanised steel panel supports and sturdy, practically located cable trunking secure the electrical components. Standard physical arrangements exist but where necessary pipework and panel orientations are adapted to suit existing/planned connections and the space available on site. All WU pump stations incorporate pump suction or delivery elbows to make removal of pumps or valves for cleaning simple whilst leaving the remainder of the system operational.
All Pumpac booster sets can be supplied with a combined break tank positioned over the unit to reduce the overall footprint of the water supply equipment, and significantly reduce installation costs. Combination units come fully fitted and tested requiring plumbing only to the tank inlet valve and from the set delivery isolation valve. Pumpac will size the tank if required and can deliver, disassemble and re-assemble on site if access is an issue. The insulated WRAS Approved GRP tanks range from 90 to 9000 litres capacity and can be supplied as one-or two piece units to further aid access (See Pumpac Combination Units).A standard booster set comprises:
- Either 2 and 3 pumps selected with or without a stand-by pump.
- (Option 1) A 1 or 3 phase Form 2 or Form 2A control panel built to IEE Regulations with door-interlocked isolator, Emergency Stop and Reset buttons, one-shot timer to restart on power failure, an AU3400 pump control unit with door mounted HMI, individual pump Hand/Off/Auto switches, a potentiometer to control the pump speed in Hand (Hand operation is independent of the pump control unit), individual pump run, standby and fault indicators, a low level cut-out using Hawker level probes, low and high pressure cut-out, pump run timers, Ammeter/Voltmeter switchable across the phases, a 4-20mA pressure transducer and full range of volt-free contacts. (See Pumpac Water Utility Booster Set leaflet WU1 for full details of AUC3400 control functions)

- (Option 2) A 1 or 3 phase Form 2 or Form 2A electro-mechanical control panel built to IEE Regulations with door-interlocked isolator, Emergency Stop and Reset buttons, one-shot timer to restart on power failure, DOlor Star/Delta starters for each pump, individual pump Hand/Off/Auto switches, individual pump run, standby and fault indicators, a low level cut-out using Hawker level probes, low and high pressure cut-out, pump run timers, Ammeter/Voltmeter switchable across the phases, one pressure switch per duty pump and a full range of volt-free contacts. (See Pumpac Water Utility Booster Set leaflet WU1 for full details of electro-mechanical control functions)
- Duty pump rotation and automatic standby pump cut-in.
- Galvanised steel skid with fork-lift slots if required and rigid galvanised steel panel supports.
- Galvanised steel, 304 or 316 stainless steel, impact resistant PVC, ABS or with smaller sets copper pipework.
- Individual pump suction and delivery isolation valves and soft-seating check valves, selected to suit the water quality.
- Pump suction or delivery elbows to facilitate removal of a pump or valve without the need to disable the remainder of the booster set.
- Manifold or skid mounted accumulator(s) with inlet isolation valve, sized and rated to suit the application.
- Delivery manifold pressure gauge and isolation valve.

- Pump anti-vibration mountings as standard.
- All pre-wired and fully wet-tested prior factory inspection and despatch.
- Delivery and off-loading on site.
Common options include:
- Alternative pipework and control panel arrangements to suit the site circumstances.
- Fully wet-tested combination units incorporating break/storage tank to reduce both the overall water supply equipment footprint and the overall costs (See Pumpac Combination Units leaflet CU1).
- Use of up to 6 duty pumps.
- 1 or 2 optional jockey pumps for use on larger systems.
- Fixed speed suction feed pumps for use where pumpset is drawing water from a remote or low water source.
- Use of main and/or jockey pumps with motor-mounted inverters.
- Cast-iron Y-strainer, normally sized greater than manifold outlet to reduce velocity, with either manual or automatic back-flush control (using timer or differential pressure switch). Requires dump pipework for back-flushing.
- High quality pressure relief valve to eliminate any risk of pumps running dry, can also be used as high pressure limitation device.
- Additional skid mounted accumulator as back-up.
- Numerous control options (See Pumpac Water Utility Booster Set leaflet WU1 for full details of control options) including GSM Modem fault reporting by text, remote monitoring via PC, remote reporting to PC, remote data-logging to PC, all using free-issued AUC, Windows based software.
